Go Ride Section
Go-Ride is British Cycling’s development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills. A number of British Cycling’s current gold medal athletes are ‘graduates’ of the Go-Ride scheme including Laura Trott who says “The Go-Ride programme is doing a brilliant job of harnessing the enthusiasm of young people and encouraging more youngsters to get involved. It really is going from strength to strength and it’s unbelievable to hear about the increasing numbers of young riders putting power to the pedals.”
Huddersfield Star Wheelers offer coaching sessions at Brooksbank Cycle Circuit near Elland on Saturdays. The session runs in 2 parts, the first runs from 2.45pm -4.00pm for riders aged 6 years to approximately 11 years who are novice or intermediate, the second session runs from 3.45pm -5pm this is for more advanced riders aged approximately 11 to 18 years. These sessions take place in a traffic free environment led by qualified coaches who introduce riders to different forms of cycle sport and include some forms of racing. Sessions cost £3 for members and £4 for non-members. If weather conditions are bad please check the calendar or Facebook page for cancellations.
Our members who are 9 years and above, can take part in regular Yorkshire Cluster Track Coaching sessions at Manchester Velodrome along with riders from other Go-Ride clubs. We can also nominate talented riders to take part in Regional School of Racing or RSR’s in Track, Road and MTB, these 1 day coaching sessions are led by British Cycling Coaches.
Huddersfield Star Wheelers Go Ride sessions are aimed at young people who can already ride a bicycle and have good co-ordination. Riders should wear a helmet at all times, have a well maintained bicycle, a drink and bring appropriate clothing and gloves.
